Fun-loving Kollywood bad girl Nayantara shocked many and enraptured many more with her bikini-clad appearance in Billa last year – but she swears she will never do it again. “I still get compliments for my bikini shot in Billa,” she says. “It’s been a while since its release, but my look in the film has received wide appreciation. I was given an option to wear a one-piece swimsuit if I was not okay with appearing in a bikini. But I was aware that I had the right attitude, so when I wore it for the shot, I was really comfortable. Rumors were that I was paid a bomb for wearing the bikini, but there’s no truth in it. I will never wear a two-piece for a film again! I’ve done it once and I’m happy the audience accepted me. So if I did it again, I don’t think it’ll remain special.”
But has Nayantara any plans to move to Bollywood? “I haven’t thought about moving to Bollywood,” she demurs. “Work here keeps me busy. When I’m not shooting, I watch films or hang out with friends. I’m very close to Ramya Krishna and her family. She’s been with me through thick and thin. I like maintaining a balance between work and friends. I’m feeling very content right now and am happy staying down South.”
Nayantara, who appeared in the original version of Ghajini will soon be seen in an item number in the upcoming movie Kuselan dressed as Cleopatra, the thought of which is grabbing the attention of many young men worldwide. Nayantara does carry with her a bit of a reputation for living life in the fast lane. She is known to smoke and drink, for example, and was recently admitted to hospital after collapsing from heat stroke whilst struggling to film three movies simultaneously. She is also known for her on-off relationship with the actor Simbu. She has been seen kissing in the film Satyam, whilst Simbu apparently based his movie Kettavan around his break-up with her.
