Directed by Anusha Rizvi, Peepli [Live] has been making a great impression since the very beginning. It started with the script making such an impact on Aamir Khan that he agreed to produce the film. The satire went on to be praised and applauded at many prestigious international film festivals and all this before the film released in theaters. Upon release audiences and critics gave Peepli [Live] rave reviews. In our review, we said “Peepli [LIVE] is an exceptional watch”. The film has also been chosen to represent India at the Acadmeny Awards next year.
With all that, you can be sure that the DVD would be impressive as well. The Peepli [Live] DVD released on Diwali (5th November) in India has some unique special features including a never-before-seen documentary ‘Live from Peepli’. There is also a really cool contest inside all DVDs and Blu-rays in India, where 50 lucky people will get to watch Dhobi Ghat with Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao, Prateik, Monica Dogra and Kriti Malhotra a week before its India theatrical release
If that was not enough, the Peepli [Live] DVD also has something that has never been done before on an Indian DVD. The DVD has a special descriptive audio track for the visually impaired so that they can also enjoy this movie at home. According to the Royal National Institute of Blind People, the descriptive audio track is “like a narrator telling a story, an additional commentary describes body language, expressions and movements, making the story clear through sound.”
About this new addition to the Peepli [Live] DVD Aamir Khan wrote, “I am really proud about is that AKP is the first Indian production house to come out with a DVD which can be enjoyed by those who are visually or hearing impaired. I have requested the producer’s association to request all the producers to work this feature in all DVDs. I don’t know if the others will do this but all AKP films from now on will for sure.”
