What a spectacular start to the new season of The Great Indian Kapil Show. Kapil Sharma couldn’t have chosen a better inaugural guest.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas is…how do I describe her… vital, vivacious, and victorious. She radiates sunshine wherever she goes. Kapil’s show radiated bonhomie as she was given a queen’s welcome.
I wish some of the gags and jokes were better written. The ‘Laaj Mata’ Baahubali takeoff with Krushna Abhishek just didn’t work. And really, Kapil’s forever flirtatious attitude went on and on. It was like a running joke that was exhausted after running too long.
But there were two golden moments on the show, that made all the humbug worth the while. One was Navjot Singh Sidhu joining Priyanka on stage for a dance to a song from Priyanka’s film Saat Khoon Maaf, on fan request. The two of them looked like they have danced together all their lives.
The other, far more decisive moment happened when Sunil Grover entered as a flaky musician named Diamond Raja, rental band and all.

Grover and Priyanka danced to a cheesy, but sinfully catchy number called ‘But Slowly Slowly’ Priyanka’s dance steps and her coolly raunchy singing with Grover, brought the house down.
The show proved more than anything else, that there is no one quite like Priyanka Chopra. I knew her from the time she came into the Indian entertainment industry starry-eyed. I watched her grow into a global phenomenon. She is moved far away. But that million-dollar smile remains intact.
Thank you, Kapil, for reminding me what makes ‘Brand Chopra’ so inimitable. I don’t think Priyanka ever imagined she would reach so far. Imagine, making it all the way to Kapil Sharma’s show! (Said with a straight face).
