With her career gaining a second wind with the highly-anticipated upcoming release of Dil Bole Hadippa, Rani Mukherjee set the record straight on her marriage plans in an interview with CNN-IBN.
Says Rani “There is no marriage on the cards. Not at all, no engagement and no marriage. I think [the press] have been trying to marry me off since the last three years and they are just not able to get a fix on the date. But just to clear the air, there is no marriage and there is none happening in the future also.”
Rani, who has long been rumored to be involved with Aditya Chopra, is reaching that age where she can no longer play the starlet roles that now go to actresses like Deepika Padukone. But despite the fact that the industry is slowly changing and marriage no longer means that a starring role opposite a hero like Salman Khan (starring opposite the just-married Ayesha Takia in Wanted) or Akshay Kumar (starring opposite the married Aishwarya Rai in Action Replay) is out of bounds, the press still loves to speculate on when and to whom an actress is getting married.
Although she was quick to deny marriage plans, it doesn’t mean that she is she planning to end up an eternal bachelorette like Rekha. Her parents haven’t given up hope even if they aren’t pressuring her. Rani added that her parents say “‘That when you do decide to get married, please let us know because we have to persuade the guy to live with us.’ That is what they keep telling me, but no, my parents are just too sweet. They give me the independence to do what I feel like doing.”
And we hope that what Rani feels like doing is to keep making films – married or not!
