Following the disappointing opening of her Hollywood movie, The Other End of the Line, Shriya Saran is now focusing her career on Kollywood. She will be teaming up with Vishal for the movie Thoranai. She is also working with Surath Kumar in Jaggubhai.
Shriya has been a big star in the South for several years but really hit the big time last year with her role in Sivaji: The Boss. This was followed by her launch into Bollywood with Awaarapan, for which she won a Best Hindi Debut Award, to back up the Best Telegu Actress Award she won for Chatrapathi back in 2005. She made a strong showing in Mission Istanbul earlier this year and has a number of other projects in the pipeline including Ek: The Power of One, and another English-language movie, What’s Cooking Stella? which is a Deepa Mehta production also starring Seema Biswas.
Shriya is enjoying her busy life at the moment.
“I have been shooting for Deepa Mehta’s film What’s Cooking, Stella? wherein I rediscovered myself and pushed myself beyond limits,” she says. “Deepa’s characters are very real and close to life, and she doesn’t allow anyone to wear make-up either, lest it hinders the authenticity of her portrayals. Ek: The Power Of One is a film in which I play an immature girl, who thinks less and talks more. I am also doing quite a few big-budget South Indian films. So, life is hectic.”
