Although shaping up as one of the hot new jodis of Generation Zee, it has been announced that the new Siddharth and Shruti Hassan movie will be Disney’s first production in Tollywood. Set to be released in January 2011, the movie will be a fantasy about a nine-year-old girl with special powers who sets out on a quest to save the land of Sangarashtra from the dominance of an evil queen. “As we work to build a family entertainment brand in India, we plan to provide Indian audiences with an unparalleled roster of locally relevant stories and engaging characters and will continue to tap into the local creative ecosystem to develop content which resonates with Indian kids and families,” said the MD of the newly-created Walt Disney (India) production company. Siddharth plays a blind swordsman in the movie and Shruti plays a gyspsy. The evil queen will be played by the magnificent Lakshmi Manchu.
Meanwhile, Siddharth has announced that he will be going into competition with Disney soon by becoming a movie producer himself. “I want to get into production very soon,” he confirmed, “We have got our funding. An announcement will be formally made in a couple of months.“ So, has he considered his target audience in his business plan? “My production ventures would target each and every movie-goer,” he added.
Shruti continues to build a duel career in music and movies and has recently released a successful album in the south as well as recording a track in Kannada. What did people think about her album? “Everyone liked it: From kids to older people,” she says, “The title track Unnaipol Oruvan did very well as did Allah Jane, as it has universal appeal.”
