Pritish Nandy noted journalist, and award-winning producer of television, film and OTT series, passed away on January 8th. In this special feature, Subhash K Jha shares his last interview with Mr. Nandy, who shared insight about his production company, Pritish Nandy Communications, celebrating 30 years.

Sir, your Production house PNC recently completed thirty years?

It doesn’t feel like it, Subhash! Time has just flown by. My daughters Rangita and Ishita form a strong team. We all work together at the creation stage and the writing—which is at the heart of all successful streaming shows. Then Rangita takes charge of the actual production, totally hands-on. Finally, Ishita takes over post-production and marketing.

That’s quite a streamlined family business, Sir?

It’s much more than a business, Subhash. Together, we lead the creative charge while Pallab, our CEO, looks after the company and its day-to-day functions. We have just entered our thirty-second year. Pallab has been with us for 30 years, Rangita for 23, and Ishita for 20.

Besides the core team, how many others do you have as part of PNC?

The Company has barely twelve or thirteen people on its rolls, but we have made some twenty-five movies, countless news and fiction television shows, and at least four streaming shows with multiple seasons—and we are currently working on several more.

That’s quite an achievement!

Thank you, Subhash. And to remember, we started with just Rs 40,000! It’s been a long and arduous haul after my decade-long tryst with print journalism at The Times of India, The Illustrated Weekly, Filmfare, and all the other things I did at The Times of India.
