The Silver Screen Lights Up Once More

Today’s the day that the multiplex-producer strike finally comes to an end and four movies should be hitting the screen in competition around Mumbai and the other major cities today. The first of these is actually a re-release – the Neil Nitin Mukesh and Bipasha Basu starrer Aa Dekhen Zara, an exciting futuristic thriller which also stars Sophie Chaudhary. Originally, released in March, it didn’t make the multiplexes and so today will appear on 170 screens. “With the issues now resolved, this is a perfect opportunity to re-release the film,” says producer Viki Rajani. “We are really excited and are looking forward to audiences coming back to the theatres to watch one of the first films to release post strike.”

Jackky Bhagnani, looking like Harman Baweja trying to look like Hrithik Roshan, pops up in the second movie Kal Kissne Dekha, which has a similar theme to the Bip/Neil starrer, about a boy who can see into the future. The movie is being launched by BIG pictures in 460 cinemas and the producers are hoping for a similar response to their successful launch of Farhan Akhtar in Rock On!! last year.

Third on the table is the interesting Zor Laga Ke Haiyya, an independent children’s movie about protecting the environment. It stars a bunch of kids who take on a developer who wants to cut down an ancient tree that hosts their tree house. The producer hopes to take the movie to schools and colleges later as an educational tool. The movie also features veteran actor Mithun Chakraborthy and Riya Sen.

Finally, there’s the long-in-production Karma: Crime, Passion & Reincarnation. A well-made supernatural thriller, this international movie stars Carlucci Weyant and Alma Saraci, but is perhaps of most interest because it also features Sushmita Sen, Naomi Campbell and Salman Khan’s new prot
