Winning Celebrity Big Brother in the United Kingdom was controversial enough, as Shilpa was at the centre of a racial furore that erupted in Britain earlier this year. After being supposedly bullied by fellow housemates on the show, Shilpa ended up stealing the win and became an overnight celebrity in the UK. After meeting the queen and planning her currently running musical, Shilpa launched her perfume in Europe as well. During this time, rumours of her dating a married man in charge of her perfume distribution emerged but both denied the accusations. As one controversy died out, Shilpa found herself in another this time involving Richard Gere who grabbed Shilpa and kissed her cheeks and hand during an AIDS awareness function. The incident sent shockwaves throughout the country and eventually reached international headlines once a detaining order was issued to Shilpa and Richard. Though this order was cancelled, it caused immense stress for Shilpa as she was held in various international airports throughout the year.
