5. Guzaarish
As far as costumes in Bollywood go, I think costume designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee definitely did think about the characters in the film and dressed them accordingly. One of the scenes sees Hrithik Roshan’s character, Ethan, wear rose tinted glasses, as Sabyasachi Mukherjee says “the glasses were dark humour, that a guy who has nothing to look forward to is wearing rose-tinted glasses”. Speaking about Aishwarya Rai’s character, Sophia, he says ‘her internal suffering has manifested itself into an over-dressing syndrome.’ I have to say I loved Ash’s look, it made a refreshing change from other movies and it was great to see all the vintage clothing! The jewellery, which was also designed by Sabyasachi also stood out and reflected the nomadic, quirky personality of Sophia. From the character Omar to the doctor to Ethan’s lawyer everyone is dressed accordingly, this is one film in Bollywood where the clothes can do the talking!
