Arbaaz Khan has confirmed the reports via twitter that there will be a sequel to Dabangg and he will make his debut as the director. Speculations were rife that the sequel will be made and the creative team will be retained. Arbaaz on earlier occasion had commented that both Abhinav and Sonakshi are a vital part of the Dabangg, which is now a brand name. Throughout the filming of Dabangg there were reports of creative differences brewing between Salman and Abhinav. Abhinav being a newcomer had to pay heed to Salman’s inputs. Creative differences between the lead star and director is not a new thing in industry. Previously, Aamir had the same creative rift with Amol Gupte (Taare Zameen Par).

Things turned bit awry when Abhinav’s elder brother – acclaimed director Anurag Kashyap also took a dig at the Khan brothers via twitter. He stated that “Salman Khan thinks he made my brother’s life. Hope he does the same for Arbaaz when he does Dabangg. All The Best.” This statement came in defense of Abhinav who feels that he has been ignored at all the media gatherings and award functions and not given enough credit for churning out one of the biggest grossers ever. There have been on and off reports about Abhinav asking a significant sum for directing the sequel. Arbaaz has been quoted saying Abhinav has opted out of the sequel owing to some personal and professional reasons. In the past, Nikhil Advani also parted ways with Karan Johar when he felt he was not given fair share of success of Kal Ho Na Ho.

In his recent comments, Anurag apparently apologized stating that he was drunk and upset when he posted that comment which is now deleted. The Kashyap brothers have openly acknowledged the fact that Arbaaz and Salman gave Abhinav the big break in his career.

Rumours are doing the rounds that Abhinav is currently in talks to direct a masala potboiler for Shah Rukh Khan who like Aamir (3 Idiots and Ghajini) and Salman (Dabaangg) is in a serious need of a blockbuster. He is looking forward to direct a totally different film than Dabangg and is not keen to jump on the bandwagon to direct Dabangg 2. It looks like he is all set to nurture his creative aspirations (three ad films with Aamir) now that he has made his mark in the territory.

Well, it is indeed sad to see a successful creative team to part ways on account of creative differences, remuneration or personal differences. In the end, what matters is the audience is blessed with good cinema.

For now, we agree with Anurag Kashyap’s comment, “Abhinav Singh Kashyap, you rock… I love you… Show them what you are made off.”(sic).
