11mar KHJJS DVDcover front Reliance Home Video releases Khelein Hum Jee Jaan on DVD & VCDAshutosh Gowariker’s (Lagaan, Swades, Jodhaa Akbar) ambitious period thriller based on the Chittagong Uprising of 1930, Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey is now available on DVD and VCD, released by Reliance Home Video. Based on the book ‘Do And Die’ by Manini Chatterjee, the film stars Abhishek Bachchan playing the lead role of Surjya Sen. Deepika Padukone also plays an important character in the film.

The film is set in 1930 British India. Surjya Sen (Abhishek Bachchan) is a school teacher in Chittagong who leads a team comprising 56 young boys, 5 defiant revolutionaries and 2 determined young women against the British Empire in Chittagong. On April 18, 1930, he executes a series of calculated attacks which catches the British empire unawares. The angry empire strikes back in hot pursuit of Surjya Sen and his team members.

Critical Acclaim
Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey enjoyed critical acclaim when it was launched in theatres.

Nikhat Kazmi (Times of India) wrote, “The film unfolds like a relentless thriller with loads of action involving the band of revolutionaries as they go about their bloody business.”

Taran Adarsh (Bollywood Hungama) gave a four out of five rating to the film. In his review, he said, “On the whole, Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey, based on the Chittagong rebellion, is an enlightening experience of a poignant, but little-known chapter in history. It’s a film of immense significance which evokes a colossal patriotic fervor.”

MovieTalkies said, “At a time when our cinema needs true calibre to distinguish itself as an art form rather than a medium of lowest common denominator entertainment, ‘Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey‘ stands as a lighthouse, shining high.”
