The talent of international, Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar has been acknowledged by the king of Indian cinema Amitabh Bachchan. Having worked alongside Akshay in several films, the legendary actor has put forward the megastar’s name to filmmaker, Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra, to play the highly prestigious and honorable role of sporting hero Milkha Singh in an upcoming film project.

Mehra believes that the life and times of the athlete Milkha Singh will make a great biopic and has sought out the wisdom and advice of Amitabh Bachchan to further develop it. Mr. Bachchan has publically shared his backing for the project on his blog, stating that the subject has a huge potential to turn into a movie. He added that it involves humanity, patriotism, history and achievement against all odds and it tells a story of incredible tragedy and poetic justice. The inspirational story of Milkha Singh’s life, having overcome the tragedy of watching his entire family being killed in front of his eyes during the riots in Pakistan, will make for a formidable and unforgettable masterpiece.

With this in mind, acknowledging Akshay Kumar’s sporting achievements and phenomenal film career, Mr. Bachchan added that it was Akshay’s name that popped into his head when confronted by Mehra on the subject of casting for the film.
