Vidya Balan dazzled in her sensuous 80’s item girl outfits as she pleased the crowed with her sensuous moves for The Dirty Picture music launch, which was held on the 4th November at the Inorbit Mall in Malad, Mumbai. The event was left open to the public for all to attend, and that they sure did in large numbers. The event marked the release of the soundtrack that has proven to be in instant hit with fans, but also marks one month until the release of the film throughout cinemas. Composer duo Vishal-Shekhar, the team responsible for the films music, were unfortunately not in attendance at the event as they were attending commitments out of town, but the evening certainly belonged to the music and dances.

Vidya has had offers to perform in the past and turned them down The music launch was the first time that the 33 year old actress had performed live on stage to any audience, but for many it was well worth the wait for a performance that proved to be the highlight of the night. Vidya, who plays Silk in the film, danced to the highly popular and fan favorite track ‘Ooh La La’ in full costume and certainly in full character.

Vidya was not the only one to perform, as Emraan Hashmi performed to the Sufi love ballad ‘Ishq Sufiyana’ and in true character, ended the performance by chucking his shoe at a poster of Silk. Other performers included Naseeruddin Shah, Tusshar Kapoor and vocal performances from Bappi Lahiri and Shreya Goshal.

Although the much-anticipated event was as energetic as expected, it didn’t run as smooth as silk. Bappi Lahiri had two false starts while singing the hit track ‘Ooh La La’ and struggled to stay in sync for the most part, but all was quickly corrected when Shreya Ghoshal joined Bappi on stage. During the moment the crowd continued to cheer Bappi along and always remained in heightened spirits throughout the showcase.

Leading up to the show and even during it the stars continued tweeting about the event. Tusshar Kapoor tweeted before the event “Almost ready for the event, but still to do the final rehearsal so a bit antsy” but then found himself getting work up over the crowd reaction, tweeting “Yes usually I’m not the nervous lot but before going on stage I get a bit mmmmm….” Tusshar certainly looked to be enjoying himself in full character costume on stage and dancing to the song ‘Twinkle Twinkle’.

While in a press style conversation with the crowd, all spoke of their excitement and appreciation for being able to be part of the film and the event, but what was most clear was the fun that was had between the actors. While commenting on his shoots, Tusshar said that although he had his favourites in the industry, there was no one like Vidya to work with. Vidya and Emraan found themselves joking with each other after Emraan apologized for throwing his shoe at her poster. Vidya immediately replied in a joking manner “you better be, if I hated you before I hate you even more” which lead to Emraan stating the feeling was mutual. That left way for Vidya to turn the event dirty by saying to the crowd “and you know that hate is the first sign of love” which was met by laughter and applause from the crowd.

The Dirty Picture, due for release on 2nd Dec, sees Vidya Balan play Silk, thought to be Silk Smitha. Balaji production house has clarified that it is instead a character inspired by Silk, not based on the southern sex siren. The music is now available for purchase and has already proven to be a big hit among The Dirty Picture fans and other movie lovers.
