India’s growing emergence in the field of Olympic sports, particularly boxing and hockey, has drawn more interest than ever to the 34th National Games, being held in Jharkand from November 21st to Dec 5th. Akshay Kumar, who has a particular interest in martial arts, and Katrina Kaif have already committed themselves to being the brand ambassadors for the event.
Now popular Mohabbatein actress Preeti Jhangiani will be joining the team. She will be joining Punjabi pop singer Daler Mehndi at the Ranchi gymnastics stadium on October 12th as Governor Sankaranayaranan hands over the flag for the festivities to the National Games Organising Committee. There is the usual race against time as construction workers seek to complete the roof of the stadium before the events begin. The completion date has been delayed once again to October 30th, just three weeks before the competition begins.
Preeti last film was the under-rated and under-promoted Haseena: Smart, Sexy & Dangerous with Isha Koppikar and Tara Sharma. Preeti has commented on the lack of characterisation in women’s parts in Bollywood. “Most Hindi films don’t care about characterization of women,” she says, “They offer a role to any one available to them. They look for Bipasha and end with Meghna, if they don’t get Amisha and Kareena in between.”
