Monday night saw Yash Chopra’s much awaited film Jab Tak Hai Jaan have its premiere at Yash Raj Studios at Andheri in Mumbai. Yashji’s wife Pamela, his son Uday, as well as the film’s main cast Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma welcomed arriving guests to the first official screening of the late director’s final work. Yashji sadly died three weeks ago from multiple organ failure, as a result of complications related to dengue fever.

Among those who attended the gala event were the Bachchans (Amitabh, Jaya, Abhishek and Aishwarya), Aamir Khan and wife Kiran Rao, Dilip Kumar and wife Saira Banu, Rekha, Hrithik Roshan and wife Suzanne, Javed Akhtar and wife Shabana Azmi, Anil Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Jeetendra, Karan Johar, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Vinod Khanna, Sooraj Barjatiya, Arjun Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor, Imran Khan and many more! A few of the guests graciously made the time to give their remarks on Yashji and on the premiere itself to various sections of the Indian media.

Commenting on the grandness of the event, which also acted as a tribute to Yashji and his legacy, actress Madhuri Dixit had this to say: “He was the king of romance. This is a beautiful way to celebrate his life with love, happiness and remembrance. His films show romance for every age. Wish he was around to see this.”

Amitabh Bachchan, who has been directed by Yashji numerous times, also gave his remarks on the premiere: “We are excited to see the film. We thank the family for this premiere. I am sure Yashji would have liked this.”

Shah Rukh Khan said that this was the ideal platform to celebrate Yashji and the unforgettable contributions he has made towards Indian cinema. “We are missing him immensely…we are missing him every moment. I hope everybody enjoys the film. It is a moment of celebration for us. His legacy has been wonderfully celebrated.”

Sridevi, who attended the event with her husband Boney Kapoor, also commented on Yashji: “There are so many memories with him that it is endless to say. It is difficult to express. We will miss him.”

Remembering his father on the night, Uday Chopra stated the following: “As a family, we have mourned, but now we have to celebrate. This is his last film. My dad was about beauty. We have not left any stone unturned. What you see today is amazing. Nobody has done this before.”

This was no doubt a historic event, which not only launched this year’s most highly anticipated film, but also commemorated one of the most important filmmakers of Indian cinema.

Finally, it is with immense pleasure that we can officially say that Jab Tak Hai Jaan is now in cinemas!!! Celebrate this Diwali by watching Yashji’s final film with your friends and family.
