Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy have been churning out hits lately like nobody’s business. The trio, collectively, have become one of the top most music directors in Bollywood, especially peaking over this past year. They delivered a hat trick last year, in itself, with the success of the music of the films KANK, Don, and Salaam-E-Ishq. Their glorious run continued with the huge success of the album of the film Jhoom Barabar Jhoom. After achieving so much success and acclaim lately, the expectations of their next venture, Heyy Babyy, are clearly sky high. Everyone is expecting yet another hit score from the trio. The big question is does the music of Heyy Babyy live up to the expectations and deliver? Well let’s just say it’s a solid album and SEL have done commendable work yet again.

The album starts off with the title track, Hey Baby, which is a pretty nice and hip number. Relative unknowns, Neeraj Shridar, Raman, Pervez Qadri, sing the song rather nicely. It is a great way to kick off the album as it gets you into the groove and keeps you at your feet. The song also has two remix versions, Hey Baby featuring Girl Band and Hey Baby (The Big ‘O’ Remix). Out of the two, the one featuring the Girl Band stands out as it has a different taste to it with the inclusion of the band. The Big ‘O’ Remix isn’t too bad either. But of the three tracks, the original is definitely the best.

Next comes the track, Dholna. Perhaps the best track in the album, it is a sweet little number, which is magnificently sung by Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghosal. With two seasoned vets like them, it’s very hard not to expect anything but the best. They do a wonderful job, and lift the song just by their presence. This song also features a remix version called Dholna (Love is in the Air Remix). It’s a nice listen, but an unnecessary remix. Stick to the original as it is much better.

Mast Kalandar is a pretty catchy tune, which seems like a dance track. It is more upbeat and funky then the two previous songs, which bodes well as the soundtrack provides variety. Salim Shehzada, Rehan Khan, Shankar Mahadevan, and the director of the film, Sajid Khan, sing the song. The song doesn’t rely on vocals as much as it does to its beats. This one will work for the people who are into dance tracks.

Jaane Bhi De is very soothing and melodious track. It is sung by two-thirds of the composing trio, Shankar Mahadevan and Loy Mendoza. They do an able job, but they do an even better job with the music of the song. The music of the film is rather catchy and hip, upto this point. This track changes things, as the mood of the song is rather tranquil compared to the other previous tracks. That is perfect as it is never good to have too much of the same thing. The song also has a remix version called Jaane Bhi De (Hip Hop Hiccup Remix). This is the best remix out of all the remixes of the album, which is ironic as this track is the softest of all the tracks in the film.

Meri Duniya Tu Hi Re is yet another soft and soothing number after Jaani Bhi De. This one is also a nice number as it is not too hard nor is it too soft. It is just right for the ears. It definitely helps having singers like Sonu Nigam, Shaan, and Shankar Mahadevan belting out the tunes for the song. One can never get enough of listening to these great vocalists and they can make any song audible. This song is no different as they do their best and turn it out to be a nice and melodious track.

SEL have produced a decent album in the form of Heyy Babyy, although it is not at par with their recent smash hits. There is no one song that stands out more than the others. They are all good tracks, but there is no great track. In other words, there is no definitive chartbuster out there to make the people go wild. But reports do indicate that SEL have yet another hit in their hands, as the music is doing very well in the charts and is selling very well. For those who have not heard the album yet, give it a listen, as it is fairly good, but don’t expect the same magic SEL has been creating lately.
