2. Jodhaa Akbar
One of the most highly anticipated films of 2008 was Ashutosh Gorwariker’s magnum opus Jodhaa Akbar, starring the beautiful Aishwarya Rai and the gorgeous Hrithik Roshan. An epic period piece that at heart is a love story, the music for the film had to live up to the majesty and classic time of the film and keep the pyaar in as well. Who better to take on that challenge than maestro A R Rahman? One of the best things that anyone can say about a song is that it gets into your soul, and with this collection of songs he achieves that with each and every one. The album includes the magnificently royal ‘Azeem-O-Shaan Shahenshah’, the sublime ‘Jashn-e-Bahaara’, the soothing and classical ‘Khwaja Mere Khwaja’, the devotional ‘Mann Mohana’, and, the highlight on the album full of amazing compositions, ‘In Lamhon Ke Daaman Mein’ is enchanting and powerful at the same time. I once again must quote my colleague who said in the review for JA, “This is Rahman in his purest form—completely uninhibited, brilliant and a supreme legend. With Jodhaa Akbar he comes up with an album that is complete in every way, shape and form. He stays true to the theme of the film yet goes above and beyond in delivering intricate and innovative compositions characterized by his distinct and inimitable style. Revered, regal and resplendent; hail the majestic king — A. R. Rahman.”
