When they were came together on-screen for the first time, no one ever assumed that Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai would land up in holy matrimony. Why would they? The duo were deemed as a couple that lacked chemistry. It took time for audiences to finally accept the couple as an on-screen couple. And when they finally did, the two had fallen in love off screen. Believe it or not, the Abhi-Ash jodi has been together in quite a few films. Some did well while others did not. However, as a couple, audiences have grown to love them and now flock to watch every film that stars the real life couple. With Raavan on the brink of release, BollySpice takes you down Abhi-Ash lane. Take a stroll!

Dhai Akshar Prem Ke

This was the first time Abhishek and Aishwarya’s names rolled in the credits together. While the story failed to do anything for the stars and failed to generate any curiosity, the duo definitely decided that they would work together again. Highlights of the film? Ash’s dances and Abhishek underplaying the sacrificial gentleman. The box office wasn’t kind to the stars or the film but that didn’t stop Abhi and Ash from coming together again…and again.

Kuch Naa Kaho

Once again the two were paired opposite each other in a romance that has bumps along the way. In Kuch Naa Kaho, Abhi loves Ash, but there is the small matter of a husband standing in the way. Do they end up together in the reel prem kahani…you will have to check out the cute film to find out. The two certainly lit some sparks off each other, and many say this was a foreshadowing of things to come! Whether that is true, we don’t know, but we do know that saath sal later their real prem kahani came true!

Bunty aur Babli – Kajra Re

Considered by many to be one of the best item numbers ever, ‘Kajra Re’ from Bunty Aur Babli has Aishwarya doing one of the things she does best: dance! It also has the team of the cool Amitabh and the goofy Abhishek and boy does it work. Interestingly, it is Big B and not Junior that Aishwarya is flirting in the song. With great music, a fabulous rendition by Alisha Chinai, Shakar Mahdevan and Javed Ali and the great performances by the soon to be bahu, beta and papa it made waves and almost stole the movie! Everyone together…Kajre Re Kajre Re….

Umrao Jaan

Yet again they came and failed. Unfortunately Ash’s regal grace and Abhishek’s nawabi style was unable to save Umrao Jaan – the remake. Critics called her “over-weepy” and “melodramatic”. They called him “passable”. Together, they lacked “chemistry”. She sang Salaam and as the courtesan tried endlessly to woo him. She succeeded to win Abhishek’s heart but not the hearts of her audiences who shunned the film and the onscreen couple. Sadly, even J.P. Dutta couldn’t help the Abhi-Ash chemistry and the movie was regarded as one the worst film of 2006.

Dhoom 2

Also in 2006, the soon to be super it couple were seen in the mega blockbuster Dhoom 2. However, they were not paired opposite each other. Aishwarya’s “Are you like checking me out” Sunehri was paired opposite hunk Hrithik Roshan’s Mr A. Once the film was out, the Abhi and Aish were out as a pair and you may remember the small matter of the uproar over THE kiss… However, the film was the biggest grossing film of the year and so, we can put a check next to this one as an AbhiAish hit!

Guru

It was Mani Ratnam who did it for the Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai pairing. Not only did Guru manage to up their careers but finally, the couple had their first hit together. In the film they married, had babies, he danced, she danced and they gave their fans by far their best performances onscreen together. It may have something to do with the fact that the couple was in love off screen which managed to transform on screen, but regardless, they finally displayed the chemistry that was once missing from their pairing. Once the film released and became a hit, Abhishek got down on one knee and asked the most beautiful woman on the earth to marry him. She said yes. And the rest is history.

Sarkar Raj

One of the major flaws that came with Sarkar Raj was actually the Abhishek-Aishwarya love angle. While critics complained that the love story that transformed between them looked forced and incredibly unconvincing, you cannot deny the mere fact that the two do share a unique relationship. This was perhaps one the few times we saw Ash step away from the traditional and perhaps more clich
