Genelia D’Souza has three fun movies lined up for the summer campaign alongside some of the leading hunks in Bollywood. The first of these is cricketing caper Hook Ya Crook with John Abraham. “John is so hot,” she says, “I would love to see him taking his shirt off again. I’ve always like him since the time he came to our fete long ago.” The David Dhawan movie also stars Amrita Rao, Kay Kay Menon and Shreyas Talpade.
Second on the agenda is Harman Baweja’s It’s My Life. Directed by Anees Bazmee, it’s a remake of Genelia’s Telugu superhit Bommarillu, a romantic melodrama that in the original starred Siddharth in Harman’s role. Siddharth and Genelia received rapturous reviews for the subtlety of their performances and it will be interesting to see if the Bollywood remake can live up to that.
The third movie on Genelia’s list that should firmly entrench her in the top echelon of Bollywood stars is Life Partner. Rumi Jaffrey’s film also stars Fardeen Khan, Govinda and Prachi Desai. Genelia exudes a sweetness and exuberance in her screen persona that has often seen her offered similar roles. Is this a worry to her? “I`m an actor who should perform whenever I get the opportunity,” she replies, “So if I`m getting roles that see me as a college going girl who is independent and youthful, I don’t mind that at all.”
