Junaid Khan is quite a chip off the old block. Like his father, Aamir Khan, Junior loves to pick and choose his project most carefully. His first film Maharaj on Netflix was a period film where Junaid played a reformist out to expose a fraud godman.

Producers Madhu Mantena and Shristi Behl’s Loveyapa takes the sophomore actor to a different zone and the one most nervous is, no not Junaid, but his father Aamir Khan.

Aamir spoke to me this morning about Junaid and his costar Khushi Kapoor. “I think they have both done really well in Loveyapa. But then, I am Junaid’s father, hence a highly interested party.”

I pointed out to Aamir that he is also an unbiased party.

He replied, “I try to be. I repeat, I think they both have done really well.”

Loveyapa which opens on February 7 works on a devious tongue-in-cheek premise: the girl’s father, played by the ever reliable Ashutosh Rana, asks the lovebirds to swap their phones for a day. Beware of what your phone contains! It could destroy your life. This sobering wisdom comes in handy in the phone-exchange programme .

The couple played by Junaid and Khushi, bickering over the content of each other’s phone makes for a hilarious take on a contemporary love relationship.

For bicker or for worse.
