Whether it was before, during or after, Taare Zameen Par was one film that was the talk of the town for varying reasons. Now the news that Aamir Khan has said no to doing Amole Gupte’s next film is starting another round of talk.
Although Kiran Rao’s directorial debut is being set up for a cinematic release early next year and Delhi Belly is in post production mode, Aamir is yet to sign another film since last year’s runaway hit by Rajkumar Hirani, 3 Idiots. Word from the rumour mill though says that he is keen to change that and has been approached by writer-actor Amole Gupte with another script he’s working on about children. Though sources at India Today say Aamir is not interested. “He is looking for something new and unique. So the only option left with Aamir was to say a polite but firm no to Amole.” Given that there was a large amount of drama during the making of Taare Zameen Par, which resulted in Aamir stepping into the director seat, there is speculation about whether he was even happy with the script and if the past had anything to do with decision. The source on the other hand, says it was a purely professional decision, and continues “Aamir Khan has a lot of respect for Amole ji. But he does not want to do the same kind of roles and stories.”
But it seems Amole is not the only that is visiting Aamir’s house with script in hand. Since Aamir’s association is enough to get even small budget films a place on the map, everyone including single producers and corporate want him on board. In particular, names like Anurag Kashyap, Aditya Chopra, Rajkumar Santhoshi and John Matthew Mathan have been dropped by the locals as being seen leaving his place rather late. Times of India reports that Aamir has apparently paused all his other projects with a source saying “Everyone is aware that Aditya Chopra is keen to sign Aamir for Dhoom 3 and that Anurag Kashyap is talking to him for Bombay Velvet. John Matthew Matthan has been having discussions with the actor on Sarfarosh 2 and Rajkumar Santoshi too has a completely different script planned for him. There are other scripts as well but at the moment, Aamir wants to concentrate on these ones.” His official spokesperson corroborates this with their own statement “Yes, Aamir is reading scripts currently and is in the process of finalising one shortly.” And in fact Aamir himself posted, “Have been hearing a lot of scripts and I think I have found something that excites me.”
