The bold colors and bright songs of the 1970s are making a comeback this year! First there was the super-hit Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai that gave audiences a taste of the dark side of the 1970s – smuggling, drugs, and violence. Now, director Vipul Shah (Namastey London) is set to revisit the lighter side of the era with Action Replayy! “We’ve seen that retro has the best connect with the audience”, said Vipul Shah to IANS. “That was the era that the youth connects to because it was colourful, the music was great, 70s created a revolution in style.”
The story begins in the present day where a young man, upset at his parents’ bickering, travels back in time to when they were single – the 1970s – to try and improve their futures by altering the past! Action Replayy is based on a 1994 Gujarati play also titled Action Replay (without the extra ‘y’, which was added for luck) and brings together the exciting jodi of Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who haven’t been seen together since the 2004 hit drama Khakee. While Akshay Kumar is known for his superb comedy, Aishwarya Rai is set to be a revelation in her new comedic avatar. Pritam is the music director and also starring are glamor girl Neha Dhupia, Om Puri, everybody’s favorite filmi mother Kirron Kher, Randhir Kapoor and the hilarious Rajpal Yadav.
The trailer has been launched to coincide with hero Akshay Kumar’s 43rd birthday (Sept. 9) and will run with Dabangg.
Action Replayy opens November 5, 2010.
