Karan Johar’s critically acclaimed Diwali release Ae Dil Hai Mushkil opened in the Top 10 at the North American box office this weekend which is a rare feat for Bollywood films since they play in only a fraction of the theaters as Hollywood movies. The release kicked off on Friday with $760,000 marking the third biggest opening day in history for a Bollywood film in North America behind PK and Dhoom 3 which were both Aamir Khan hits releasing right before the Christmas holidays.
ADHM grossed $825,000 on Saturday and is estimated to collect $550,000 on Sunday for an opening weekend gross of $2.14 million. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Fawad Khan, the film has won raves from audiences around the world and has earned four-star reviews from film critics at The Times of India, Bollywood Hungama, Rediff, NDTV, and others. ADHM will continue to play daily at over 300 theaters across North America.
