Rumours abound that the King of Singh, Akshay Kumar will be hobnobbing with supermodel Naomi Campbell in a duet for the animated movie Jumbo. English model, actress and singer, Naomi is not new to the world of music – she had a number 1 hit in Japan with ‘Long Vacation’ from her Baby Woman album. She has appeared in several movies including Karma, Confessions and Holi ,which also features Randeep Hooda and Sushmita Sen.
Akshay meanwhile is working with Deepa Mehta on her latest production Komagata Maru, telling the story of the historic voyage and challenge to Canadian immigration laws early in the 20th century. Newcomer Vinay Virmani has been chosen to play the pivotal role of Mewa Singh in the movie. “I am delighted to have Vinay as part of our cast,” said Akshay, “Mewa Singh is a significant character in the film. His contributions and sacrifice were a true testament to the human struggle for freedom. Mewa Singh was one of the bravest Sikhs of his time. I am confident Vinay will do justice to this great humanitarian.”
Akshay will be playing the role of leader Gurdit Singh in the movie and is looking forward to working with Deepa Mehta as director. “I am not used to working with Oscar nominated directors so it is a great privilege for me to work with Deepa Mehta,” he explains, “The subject of this film has moved me. I want to portray this real life tragedy to the world identifying how injustice was done to innocent people.”
Akshay has some great new releases lined up for our entertainment including Chandni Chowk to China in January, the international Kambakht Ishq with Kareena Kapoor, Denise Richards and Sylvester Stallone, the multi-starrer Blue and the interesting Eight by Ten.
