Akshay Kumar and director Anees Bazmee could whip up a storm of laughter when they wanted. Curiously this captivating comic combination has not worked since Welcome since 2011.
Now Akshay Kumar reunites with Anees Bazmee for the remake of Sankranthiki Vasthunam. This 2025 Telugu action comedy film written and directed by Anil Ravipudi and produced by Sri Venkateswara starred Venkatesh as an NRI who gets kidnapped during a visit home in Andhra Pradesh.
The remake will feature Akshay Kumar in Venkatesh’s role.
Speaking on his terrific togetherness with Akshay, Anees says, “His impeccable comic timing makes it a pleasure to work with him on a comedy. After Welcome, we wanted to work together only on a subject that inspired both of us.”
Interestingly Anees is not in favour of remakes. Most of his comedies are originals. Sankranthiki Vasthunam caught his attention for its witty and wise writing.
