talking with Subhash K Jha, director Ali Abbas Zafar delves into his drama Bharat, which starred Salman Kham, Katrina Kaif, Tabu, and Kumud Mishra.

How do you look back on the Bharat experience?
Bharat had been one of the most challenging films of my career , a journey of a man and nation together , to tell a story of evolution of the nation through the main character’s eyes . Bharat was most the most fascinating aspect of Bharat .

Salman Khan went through the ageing process of his character?
According to me it’s one of most powerful performances of Salman Khan, also Katrina Kaif and Kumud Mishra were outstanding. Tabu in a special role made the film an emotional rollercoaster . Sunil Grover as Vilayati was also very strong in the film .

Bharat remains a flawed but fascinating film?
A film is an emotion. If after six years if people still talk about the film it means it made a mark with audiences and is still relèvent .

Bharat was an adaptation of a Korean film?

We adapted it from Korean film , the basic plot was same but we had to adapt it to Indian culture and society. Salman loved the Korean Ode To My Father. Atul bhai ( Atul Agnihotri ) got this film to Salman Sir. Salman sir one day called me and said you should watch the film and let’s make it . That’s how journey of Bharat began.

If you remade Bharat now what would you change?

I would like to finish the film where Bharat meets his sister (Tabu in the film) and give a closure with his father in climax straight after the Tabu scene.
