New kids on the block Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt will play the lead roles in an upcoming movie.
Both actors will share screen space for the second time in one of Dharma Production’s new projects, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania.
The teen heartthrobs had made their dream debuts with ace director, Karan Johar’s Student Of the Year in 2012. SOTY fared well at the box office providing new opportunities to these young talents.
While Alia is working on 2 States, Varun is busy shooting for Main Tera Hero, directed by his father David Dhawan.
In an interview to a leading newspaper Karan said, “We are starting a film with Varun and Alia. They (Varun and Alia) had an unrequited romance in SOTY, so this is technically their first on-screen love story.”
Dharma Productions has been leading by example in promoting creative professionals. Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania is the first directorial venture of Shashank Khaitan. “This is his debut film; he has also written it. It’s a fun, warm and crazy love story and will be shot extensively in Punjab,” informed Karan.
Alia is naturally ecstatic about her forthcoming flick. Talking to IANS the 20-year-old said, “(My next is) ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’. The announcement has just been made and I am doing this film with Varun. It will release next year.” She has expressed immense happiness over her association with Dharma Productions for the third time. “Dharma is like my home production, it is home for me. Karan said, ‘Alia, you are going to do this film’ and he has great vision for me,” Alia stated.
The pretty star clearly reposes huge amount of trust in Karan Johar. “I trust him completely. It’s obviously going to be very exciting working with him,” she added.
Given their sizzling chemistry in SOTY, Alia and Varun will surely make a great on-screen couple. Will they be the next big ‘jodi’ on celluloid? We can only find out after Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania hits theatres.
The tentative release date of the movie is June 27, 2014.
