Still fresh from her successful debut in Karan Johar’s Student of the Year, Alia Bhatt has now been selected for the upcoming film 2 States. It will be based on the bestselling novel by Chetan Bhagat, whose other novel Five Point Someone was transformed into the super hit film 3 Idiots (2009). The story is about a Punjabi boy who falls in love with a Tamil girl which causes a regional/culture clash. Alia will be starring in 2 States opposite Arjun Kapoor, who also made his debut this year with Ishaqzaade. A close source to the film’s director Abhishek Verman confirmed this news recently to a leading Indian newspaper and gave the following details. “Karan (Johar) and Sajid (Nadiadwala) have decided to rope in Alia. It is a big break for both the actors since two of India’s biggest production houses (Dharma Productions and Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment) are coming together for the first time. In fact, the final rounds of talks have already taken place.” “Karan, Sajid and Abhishek were looking for someone who could carry a girl-next-door look, yet was beautiful and had a charming personality. Alia fits the bill. Plus she looks good with Arjun.”

The source added that shooting for 2 States will commence early next year, as soon as Arjun has completed work on his other upcoming project Aurangzeb with Yash Raj Films. Hopefully, Alia and Arjun will deliver some great on-screen chemistry for this film. It is one of the key films that many Bollywood fans are looking forward to seeing when it releases sometime next year!
