Amitabh Bachchan has agreed to attend the London premiere of Akshay Kumar’s new spectacular, Chnadni Chowk to China. “Akshay called at 5.30 a.m. and said, ‘CC2C is premiering at Leicester Square, London, on Jan 12th. I shall be honoured if you could come and join us.’ I told him I shall,” announced Amitabh, who is currently working on the early stages of the movie Pa in London.
Meanwhile, the film Aladin which features Amitabh as the jin, djinn or genie, had had its release date pushed back to the start of the summer holidays. Originally aimed at December 2008, the producers felt they would prefer to avoid direct competition with Ghajini. “I am looking at a June/July release of Aladin,” says producer Sujoy Ghosh, “I am happy though with the principal shooting of the film which is through. The post production work is currently underway but I don’t want to rush it.” The film stars Ritesh Deshmukh in the principle role and Sri Lankan beauty Jacqueline Fernandez as the Princess Jasmine.
In a rare TV interview, Jaya Bachchan, married to Amitabh for 35 years, has spoken openly of her love for him. “I first saw Amitji in an institute,” she explains, “I saw him, I liked him and I told my friends that, you know, he has got a personality. And they said ‘what!…he looks like a stick!’ He was very thin and his face was full of his eyes. I remember I fought with my friends and said he is different. It might have been love at first sight.”
