Amrita Rao, the star of the stunning Welcome to Sajjanpur, was proud to have voted for the first time in a general election. “At 7 am I was the first voter at the booth in the municipal school in Mahim,” she says, “I feel so proud of being able to vote for the first time. I keep looking at the black mark on my finger. For years I envied that tell-tale mark on my parents’ finger.” She looked stylish and chic as she entered the polling station in a black short-sleeved top and tight red jeans.

Amrita is also looking forward to a change of image in her next movie. “I won’t say I’m tired of playing the sweet girl next door who looks at life each day with wide-eyed wonder,” she explains, “But I do crave for a change of image. In my next release Short Cut I play a very glamorous girl. For the first time I’m being dressed up by Manish Malhotra.” The Anil Kapoor production also stars Akshaye Khanna.

Amrita is also lined up for the fascinating Kunal Avadana which stars Amitabh Bachchan as the emperor Ashoka the Great, Tabu and Arjun Rampal as Veera Kunal, Ashoka’s son. The period drama will tell the tragic tale of atonement that links together both father and son.
