After playing country girls in movies such as Welcome to Sajjanpur and Vivaah, Amrita Rao glammed up and was noticed by many doing sexy item numbers in movies like Shortkut: The Con is On and Life Partner. She says she’s happy to do both: “I’d still love to play characters like Poonam of Vivaah or Kamla in Welcome to Sajjanpur, but I have enjoyed doing those dance numbers so much that I think, they are fun too,” she confirms, “So, I am game for both.”
Meanwhile, something unusual is happening on the set of Amrita’s reality TV show for Star Plus, Perfect Bride. The show, in which Amrita acts as a mentor, is intended to match a young man and a young woman – with a young man named Rajbeer currently looking the most popular of the men. But the plot appears to be thickening! “We have often noticed Amrita’s searching eyes come to a smooth stop at Rajbeer’s face,” says a source for the programme, “Even when she mentors Rajbeer the changed attitude is evident though she attempts to downplay it.” Could it be that Amrita herself will end up as the perfect bride? Amrita’s younger sister Preetika, who is keen to enter movies, has decided to make her debut in the south before risking a turn in Bollywood. She will feature alongside Arya and Shriya Saran in the Kollywood movie Chikku Bukku. Is she worried that Shriya will overshadow her? “When I got to know that Shriya was on board, I was thrilled,” she says, “She has a huge market in the south and that’s an advantage. I look at the bigger picture rather then get bogged down by small insecurities.”
