Anupam Kher took the writer and director’s chair for Tanvi The Great and so far it has been going great. From incredible responses to the teaser of the film that had audiences and critics intrigued and wanting more, the film can now boast a special World Premiere at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.
At the screening on Saturday night, the film was met with tremendous applause. Posting on social media the actor said, “I am deeply touched and humbled by the emotional response of the audiences from all countries last night at the World Premiere of Tanvi The Great. They all said it has a universal theme and it Touched their heart.”
He also revealed the release date of the film, writing, “Waiting for all of you to witness the love, magic and labour of our film on 18th July!! See you in the THEATRES.”
About the essence of the film Kher says, “Tanvi The Great is not about storms. It is about sailing through them. It is about not letting anyone else get affected by your own predicament. It is about putting your faith in your own self to the test. It is about optimism and hope. It is about finding your way through the chaos. It is about following the greatest GPS God has gifted us—our heart.“
When releasing the first look Anupam Kher wrote, “मैंने #तन्वीदग्रेट फ़िल्म बनाने का फ़ैसला आज से लगभग चार साल पहले लिया था! और फिर चार साल लगे इसे लिखकर बनाने में! अब मेरे इस ‘दिल के टुकड़े’ को आप सबके साथ शेयर करने का वक्त आ गया है! पर धीरे धीरे! और बहुत प्यार के साथ! ❤️ (I decided to make a film #तन्वीदग्रेट (Tanvi The Great) almost four years ago! And then it took four years to write and make it! Now, the time has come to share this ‘piece of heart’ with all of you! But slowly! And with a lot of love! ❤️”)

The director has been sharing behind the scenes posts taking us inside the making of the film, including introducing the outstanding cast and we, as a special bonus, present The Actors of Tanvi.
The actor not only wrote and directed the film, he is also playing a part.

“The idea of making the film Tanvi The Great came to me roughly 4 years back from a real life conversation! And it took me and our team almost three years to put it together. I was 100% sure to find Tanvi from my acting school Actor Prepares. But it was a difficult task to find TANVI! Difficult, because Tanvi represents goodness, innocence, charm, sense of wonder, funniness and purity! Tanvi is DIFFERENT but NO LESS! It took us more than six months to find her! One day in my master class at the school where I had asked students to shut their eyes and have total calmness on their faces, I saw SHUBHANGI with her eyes shut and peace written all over face. Later she told us that she was actually in a dreamworld which was her security blanket. I will leave all the details for later. But today my dearest Shubhangi you will meet the world. The world of your dreams. But always carry the qualities of TANVI with you. She will keep you real and grounded! So Work hard, be honest, be real and be yourself. It will be personally for me and for the school the happiest day when world starts referring to you as #ShubhangiTheGreat. All my love and blessings! “I acted with Iain Glen (Game Of Thrones) in a BBC three part series Mrs Wilson. We became friends after the shoot. So when I was casting for Michael Simmons’s character in Tanvi The Great, I sent the script to Iain, and he immediately agreed to play one of the most important characters in our film. He brings with him not only the brilliance of his acting to the character but also the gravitas, warmth, and compassion so needed in the film. Thank you my friend for being part of this important Indian film for the world.”
ACTORS of TANVI THE GREAT – Jackie Shroff:
“My friend Jackie Shroff is actually my brother from another mother. We have not only worked together in so many movies, we are also related. Not many know that his wife Ayesha Shroff has been tying Rakhi to me for more than 30-years. Jackie has a golden heart. ‘Love’ can be his second name. He has so much of it in him. One day he dropped in at my place. I was yet to cast my film Tanvi The Great! But I had recorded few songs. I made him listen to them. He was quiet for a long time after listening to them. Then he hugged me and said. Don’t make this film without me. Brig. Joshi like any Indian army officer is larger than life. Strong, decisive and yet compassionate. His portrayal will be remembered for years! Thank you Shroff for your selfless friendship and brilliant acting. You are a piller of my strength. Both, on and off screen!”
