Manoj Bajpayee is, as usual, on a roll. Not only is his eponymous feature film Inspector Zende streaming on Netflix from September 5, Manoj has a major release Jugnuma coming up in cinemas the following week on September 12.
Jugnuma, which means “fable” is directed by Raam Reddy whose Thithi in Kannada took the world by storm.
Set in the late 1980s, Jugnuma follows Dev (Bajpayee), who discovers mysteriously burnt trees in his sprawling estate of fruit orchards nestled in the Indian Himalayas. In spite of all efforts, more fires break out, leading him to see himself and his family for who they truly are.
The film also stars Tillotama Shome, Deepak Dobriyal and Priyanka Bose.
Anurag Kashyap who is an executive producer in the project says, “I had loved Raam Reddy’s Thithi, which was so rooted and genuine, and with Jugnuma, he has created a film that feels timeless. The film is deeply humane yet magical in the way it unfolds. And at the centre of it, Manoj Bajpayee delivers a performance unlike anything we’ve seen before — restrained, enigmatic, and profoundly moving. It’s a film which I am extremely proud to present it to the Indian audience”.
Manoj is super-excited about two such diverse releases in two weeks. “It looks like September is going to be mine as far as the visual experience goes. No two movie experiences can be as dissimilar as Inspector Zende and Jugnuma. I am very proud of both.”
