After her big performance in both the Tamil and Bollywood versions of Ghajini, Asin hopes to take things one step further with her performance in the Disney financed 19 Steps. “The film is being produced by Walt Disney and a good portion will be shot in Kerala,” she explains, “Kamal Hassan plays an important role in the film which also has popular Japanese actor Tadanobu Asano. This is going to be made in Tamil, Japanese and English and shooting will commence in the second half of this year.”
The film is an action thriller and involves Asin having to learn the ancient martial art of Kalaripayattu for her role. Was the fact that the movie was multilingual an influence on her choice? “Language has never been a criterion for selection of films for me,” she confirms, “It is the role and the script. I shall continue doing movies in Tamil and other regional languages too.”
Asin has worked with Kamal Hassan before in the multi-award winning Dasavatharam. How does she feel about working with the superstar? “Kamalji has such good comic timing, he’ll have you in splits! It’s truly an entertaining experience,” she says.
Asin will also be seen soon in London Dreams with Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan which is currently in post-production.
