To mark 15 years of The Official Asian Music Chart, BBC Asian Network have launched their Ultimate Asian Music Chart No.1 Vote, in collaboration with The Official Charts Company, to find the nation’s number one chart song.
The Official Asian Music Chart marked an important moment for British Asian listeners and the South Asian music scene and was the first ever Asian Music Chart to be compiled by the Official Charts Company. Since its launch, it has seen mainstream tracks from British Asian talent like Naughty Boy and Joy Crookes, Bollywood bangers from Arijit Singh and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Punjabi power anthems from Diljit Dosanjh and AP Dhillon featured, amongst other tracks and artists.
Announced this morning (Tuesday 12 August) on Asian Network Breakfast, voting opened at 8am and will close at midday on Monday 1 September.
Choosing from a list of the top 50 biggest selling tracks that have made it to number 1 since March 2010, members of the public can now participate online, casting up to five votes, to vote for their Ultimate Asian Music Chart No.1.
Listeners can also tune into a special live countdown show from 7am on Friday 12 September on Asian Network and BBC Sounds where Asian Network DJs will be joined by special guests and the winner of the Ultimate Asian Music Chart No.1 will be revealed.
