You probably think twelve avatars is quite an achievement for Priyanka Chopra in What’s Your Rashee? but that’s really yesterday’s thinking! In her new movie Pankh, Bipasha Basu has thirteen different avatars! She plays the imaginary alter-ego of Maradona Rebello, who plays the role of a young man who had once starred in movies as child actor Baby Kusum. Based on a real-life story, the film explores the damaged psyche of the young man and the events that lead up to his attempts to re-enter the industry.
“All the diva-like personas are larger than life,” says director Sudipto Chattapadhay, “So, her body language, costumes, make-up and hair had to change with each of them. Bipasha has done a remarkable job in the film. She walked an extra mile for it and agreed to do it in spite of it being a radical film instead of a commercial one.” In a film that could redefine Bipasha’s career, she certainly appears to have committed herself fully, even cutting her hair for one scene when the wig wouldn’t fit. Also, the similarity in appearance between her and Maradona is unnerving.
Meanwhile, Bipasha demonstrates her versatility as an actress with a comic role in All The Best. She plays the role of a gym instructor in a film that also includes Ajay Devgan, Sanjay Dutt and Mughda Godse. The film premieres on Oct 16th and will be launched worldwide.
