While Bengali bombshell Bipasha Basu is usually noted in the press for her stunning physique and her smoky eyes, not to mention her equally talented boyfriend John Abraham, Bipasha has recently garnered rave reviews for her performance in her latest film release. No, not Aa Dekhen Zara – a Bengali language film titled Shob Charitro Kalponik (“All Characters are Imaginary”), the story of a woman who becomes the wife of a poet only to find that the imaginary worlds he creates are more real to him than his actual life.
The Times of India compared Bipasha to Shabana Azmi, while praising Bips’ sensitive portrayal of the unhappily married Radhika and the film itself has been getting rave reviews across the board. Unfortunately director Rituparno Ghosh did not trust Bipasha, despite being Bengali herself, to do the dialogues and another actress was asked to dub for Bipasha in the film.
But all of this positive press has encouraged Rituparno Ghosh to rethink his position and Bipasha will be dubbing a print of the film in order for her performance to be eligible for the best actress category at the National Awards.
Said Bipasha to the TOI, “Yes, I spoke to Ritu after the film’s release. And I’m going to Kolkata in October to dub for the film. The Bengali media has been very kind. But my voice being dubbed has been noticed.”
