First, the bad news: Dharmendra doesn’t have as much footage in Sriram Raghavan’s Ikkis as his fans expect. To therefore project him so prominently in the publicity seems a bit of a stretch for the sake of sentimentality.
But the good news is that whatever he has to do as Agastya Nanda’s grandfather is steeped in sincerity. Interestingly, the younger version of Dharmendra’s character is voiced by his younger son Bobby Deol.
Director Sriram Raghavan had the option of choosing between Dharmendra’s either son. Bobby’s voice matched Dharamji’s voice more than Sunny’s.
Director Sriram Raghavan says, “While shooting we were aware of how much of a litmus test Ikkis was for Agastya. We never thought Dharamji would leave us , and the film would be his final performance.”
