He not only choreographs for films, Shiamak also is a master at choregraphing awards shows and even cooler he presents incredible contemporary dance shows with his dance company. One of those is Selcouth and true to its name it is rare, unusual and marvellous. With trademark Shiamak choreography the dances involve indo-contemporary and modern movement with ballet technique. Performed by The Shiamak Davar Dance Company and graduates from Shiamak’s One Year Dance Certification Program, the performances display flawless technique, training, lifts and dance with concepts that are fresh and show the way for the direction that dance is ready to take.
According to bookmyshow Selcouth is, “In this mundane existence, in your being lies an odd undertone. The spark that sets you apart of the ordinary. There is comfort in the glory of oddity. You find yourself in that oddity. The sound of your soul calls out to your body. You see thoughts and shapes that the world may not understand. A vision of things that we don`t see, places we fear to visit and situations which make us wary. The Shiamak Davar Dance company brings this vision to life through contemporary dance movement in his own inimitable style.”
The who’s who have attended the seventeen house full shows have been raving about it. Recently the show was performed again and from start to the end the audiences were at the edge of their seats with moments that took their breath away.
Once again the Bollywood brigade came out in support of the choreographer and dancers. Amongst a packed audience we spotted a bevy of Directors- Siddharth Roy Kapur, Rajkumar Hirani, Sujoy Ghosh and Ananth Mahadevan. Actors Aditya Roy Kapur, Boman Irani and Viveck Vaswani were seen enjoying the show too. Shiamak received a standing ovation at the end of the show.
Right after the show, Boman Irani tweeted, “Just watched @Shiamakofficial Selcouth dance show. I’ve been trying for an hour to put mere words together to describe ‘brilliance’. Can’t!”
Singer Sulaiman who was also seen at the show tweeted, “Watched @Shiamakofficial play. SELCOUTH today. Have no words to describe it. Simply outstanding!!!”
Says Shiamak, “I’m extremely pleased and humbled with how well everyone has received Selcouth. People generally get to see my work in Bollywood and award show, but this is really my style. I’ve been doing these shows with my students for years, but now I’m glad I’’ve opened it to public.”
