The recent surge of growth in Mollywood – the film industry based in Kerala, has been evidenced by the increasing numbers of stars from other film industries seeking to make movies there. The latest of these is Sameera Reddy. Fresh from big hits such as Veeranam Aayiram opposite Surya in Kollywood, and of course De Dana Dan with Akshay and Katrina, she is now set to debut in Malayalam with superstar Mohanlal in Casanova. The plot is said to revolve around her role as a seductress and the film will also feature Lakshmi Rai and Roma.
Following in the footsteps of Shriya Saran, who recently announced she would be debuting in Mollywood oppositie Mammootty, Paa’s star Vidya Balan, who has just completed work on Ishqiya in a role that’s said to redefine her as an actress, has also announced that she plans to make at least one Mollywood movie next year. No surprise there as Vidya was born in Kerala.
Meanwhile, rising Mollywood star Meera Nandan, who must surely be bound for Bollywood one day, celebrated her 19th birthday in LA recently. She was there for a stage show organised by some NRI Malayalees. “It was a great birthday bash as in US as Nov 26 is celebrated as Thanks Giving day,” she explained, “It is a time for merrymaking, shopping, family reunions, feasts and family dinners. The highlight was at the place I was staying they served roasted turkey as part of the festival.” Meera’s next movie is Kathalikku Maranamillai opposite Theja.
