Nikhil Advani’s Hero opened on expected lines and then stayed stable right through the weekend. There were no major ups and downs in the collections as the days progressed and while there was a little drop on Saturday, a decent jump in collections on Sunday helped things perk up for the 1983 remake. As a result, the film brought in around 21 crore which is a decent outcome for the much hyped film. Yes, a bigger number would have helped but considering the fact that the film is a launchpad of two absolute newcomers (Sooraj joPancholi, Athiya Shetty) and 2015 hasn’t seen a single notable film with debutant’s doing well at the Box Office, these are good numbers.
The number is pretty much comparable to Sajid Nadiadwala’s Heropanti that too was a launchpad for newcomers Tiger Shroff and Kriti Sanon, and had followed an almost similar trend. While that had a one time director Saabir Khan at the helm of affairs, it had managed a good run and touched the 50 crore mark eventually. In case of Hero, there is a much more experienced director (Nikhil Advani) calling the shots with Salman Khan and Eros backing it to the fullest. Now it has to be seen that how much further does Hero go from here as there has been direct competition from Eros’ own Welcome Back with Nikhil’s next directorial affair Katti Batti arriving this Friday.
In the final run, Hero would most certainly cross a much bigger Tevar (41 crore) and may also go past Roy (45 crore) eventually.
