It was pretty much expected that Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya would take a good opening at the box office. This has pretty much happened, what with the film seeing an opening of around 60%, something which augurs well for the release size that this Karan Johar production enjoyed. As a result, around 33 crore came in, which is around 50% more than what Varun Dhawan’s Main Tera Hero had enjoyed (22 crore) a few months back.
This pretty much places Varun Dhawan well on the map of youngsters who are delivering on a consistent note now, what with the film marking a hat trick of successes for him after Student of the Year and Main Tera Hero. On the other hand, even though the film’s opening is lesser than Alia Bhatt’s 2 States (38 crore), one must remember that this Shashan Khaitan directed film is much lesser in budget.
While the film would very conveniently cross the 50 crore mark, it would be interesting to see how much further does it go beyond the Student of the Year total of 68 crore. While one waits to see that happening, the fact remains that from Dharma Productions, one more new director (Shashank Khaitan) has managed to score well on his debut while Varun and Alia have showed that the current generation is pretty much ready and willing to see a lot more of them in years to come.
