Chak De India Wins Big at IIFA

We have an early list of winners from this weekend’s IIFA awards in Bangkok.

The Best Newcomer Awards went to Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone.

Vivek Oberoi took home the trophy for the Best Performance in a Negative Role for Shootout at Lokhandwala.

While from the opposite genre Govinda won for the Best Performance in a Comic Role for Partner.

For Best Supporting Actress and Actor the trophies went to Irrfan Khan and Konkona Sen Sharma for their performances in Life in a Metro.

In the music categories Guru took three out of the five awards including Best Music Director for AR Rahman. Shreya Ghosal’s performance on ‘Barso Re’ won Best Playback Singer (female) and the song also won Best Song Recording – H Sridhar.

Shaan’s rendition of ‘Jab Se Tere Naina’ from Saawariya was honored with the Best Playback Singer (male) award.

Javed Akhtar was named the Best Lyricist for Om Shanti Om.

Kareena continued her run of winning Best Actress Awards for Jab We Met.

Imtiaz Ali won Best Dialogue for Jab We Met and Anurag Basu won a Best Screenplay Award for Life in a Metro, which he shared with Jaideep Sahni for Chak De India. The awards for Best Story also went to Jaideep Sahni for CDI.

Chak De India certainly had a very big night because along with those two awards, the film also took all the top honors including, Best Cinematography, Best Director – Shimit Amin, Best Actor for Shah Rukh Khan, and then the big prize of the evening Best Film.
