The winners for this year’s Global Indian Music Awards have been announced, with big figures such as A R Rahman, Arijit Singh, Kanika Kapoor and Amit Trivedi bagging prizes. The fifth edition of the prestigious award ceremony took place back in February, but was only broadcast on television on Sunday night.
Arijit won the Best Male Playback Singer Award for the song ‘Muskuraane’ from Citylights, with Kanika Kapoor winning Best Female Playback Singer for her much popular item number ‘Baby Doll’ from Ragini MMS 2. Shraddha Kapoor also received an award for Best Celebrity Singer of the Year for her hit song Galliyan Unplugged from Ek Villain. Music Maestro A R Rahman won the award for Best Film Album for Highway, whereas Yaariyan bagged the award for Most Popular Film Album.
Hosted by Mika Singh and Manish Paul, the ceremony saw some dazzling performances from top stars such as Rahman and his band NAFS, Arijit Singh, Ankit Tiwari, Atif Aslam, and Shraddha Kapoor on a night which celebrated the best of Indian film and non-film music.
