After elder son Rohit Dhawan’s directorial debut last year with the successful Desi Boyz, now it’s the turn of David Dhawan’s younger son Varun Dhawan, who will be making his debut in Karan Johar’s Student of the Year, where he debuts alongside Mahesh Bhatt’s daughter Alia and Siddharth Malhotra.
Directing close to fifty films and having worked with some of the greats, one would think David Dhawan would know a thing or two about successes and failures. However, the father is extremely nervous, as well as anxious about how his son’s film will fare and how his performance will turn out. So much so that he has put everything on hold until his son’s film releases and even took a trip to Rishikesh, to pray for his son. He shared: “I’ve never prayed for my own career. But when it comes to one’s children one’s attitude to everything from God and destiny to luck and good fortune, changes.”
Varun Dhawan certainly has nothing to worry about, as regardless of how Student of the year fares, or how his performance is rated, he will have a second and possibly third chance, as both his father and brother are directors and are already planning their next film with him “We are definitely doing something with Varun. My elder son is now a director and my younger son will hopefully make a mark as an actor when Karan Johar’s film releases.”
Going back to his anxiousness he shares “I made it a point never to visit Varun on the sets. Or to ask Karan to show me any portion of the film…For the next two months, we’re all there for Varun in whatever capacity he needs us.” With such strong support, no doubt Varun Dhawan will be able to continue the household name David Dhawan created for himself with his Govinda-starrer comedies, he ended with “I think it’s time for me to take it easy for a while. Let my sons carry the legacy forward.”
