After the huge success of Water, Deepa Mehta and John Abraham are coming together once again for another ground breaking project titled Beeba Boyz.
Deepa Mehta is currently finishing off Midnight’s Children which is based on Salman Rushdie’s hugely acclaimed novel, however Deepa had originally planned to make Beeba Boyz before Midnight’s Children. It seems that because John’s dates weren’t available the director decided to go ahead with her other idea and wait for John as she was adamant to have him in the lead role for Beeba Boyz.
Beeba Boyz is a story of Punjabi gangsters, and John is to star opposite Ukranian actress Milla Jovoich. Speaking with Mumbai Mirror about John’s choice for this role, the award winning director said, “John was always my first choice for the part. Ever since we did Water, we’ve been waiting to work together again. Beeba Boyz is perfect for John. I need someone who will look menacing but attractive, sexy and earthy. When I did Water with John, no one thought he could speak Sanskritized Hindi. But he worked hard on it. John will be able to do the Punjabi lines very well. Most importantly, John and Milla Jovovich would look so good together.”
Deepa is bringing together two actor from completely different industries, however Milla was all too familiar with John it seems. “She asked about John the minute I offered her my film. I think she had seen John’s film and loved him in it,” commented Deepa when asked about Milla’s reaction to John Abraham being her co-star in the film.
John even went on to confirm the news and delivered the following statement to the newspaper, “Yes, Deepa and I have met about the project with Milla. I’m doing it. We’ve sorted out the dates issues. I’m really fond of Deepa. I think we did something special in Water. We’ll do it again.”
