Following a long-standing Bollywood tradition, Deepika Padukone will be seen playing two roles in Chandni Chowk to China, an action comedy in which she stars opposite Akshay Kumar. In one of the roles, she plays a Chinese martial artist. This will be her second double-role after OMS – how does she feel about that? “Yes it’s my second in a year,” she says, “Two of out my three roles so far are double roles. It just gives me that much more confidence as an actor to know that directors think I can carry off a completely Indian and also a Chinese look.” With two of the hottest personalities in B-town leading the cast, this movie is almost guaranteed to be a hit.
Deepika is moving away from her one movie a year beginning which saw her bring Om Shanti Om and Bachna ae Haseeno to the screen and has a number of new projects lined up. These include an item number in Billoo Barber – which is said to be sizzling hot and the highlight of the movie – and her work alongside Saif Ali Khan in his home production which has recently been filming in London.
Deepika currently features on the cover of the launch issue of Jade magazine where she talks about her interests, her life and her love, Ranbir Kapoor. “Finding the right person makes a lot of difference,” she says, “We don’t need anyone else, we just love being with each other!” What type of roles is Deepika looking for in the future? “I’m looking primarily at solo- heroine films unless I’m as excited about a multi-heroine project as I was about Bachna…,” she concludes.
