13aug_Deepika-SuccessNobody can question that 2013 has been a very good year for Deepika Padukone. Her last three films have become blockbusters, establishing herself as a leading actress of Hindi cinema.

The daughter of former badminton player Prakash Padukone, Deepika started her career as a model, but soon received offers for film roles and made her Bollywood debut in Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om alongside Shah Rukh Khan in 2007. Fast forward to 2013 and her three hit films. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani was her first big hit of the year, where she impressed the audience with her performance of the nerdy Naina. Her success continued with cheerful Meenamma, her character in box office record-breaking Chennai Express. The release of Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela has meant the consolidation of Deepika’s career, as the film has already entered the Rs.100 crore club.

In conversation with IANS, the actress admitted to be enjoying a “magical” moment, although she also pointed out that “nothing has changed”. About her work, the actress has a simple approach. “I’ve always believed that everyone has one’s own pattern, the only thing that I can do is to work with the best of my ability, to work honestly and whole-heartedly and to know that I’m giving your 100 percent. I think the results follow eventually”.

The actress also talked about her forthcoming films in 2014, particularly Finding Fanny, directed by Homi Adajania and produced by Saif Ali Khan’s Illuminati Films. The film, which also features Arjun Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah and Dimple Kapadia in the lead roles, is based on a road trip in Goa and follows the journey of five characters. It will be the first film in English for Deepika, although the actress does not seem intimidated by the challenge. “That was the first time for me, but in terms of my approach to a film, in terms of what I bring to a film or character, that doesn’t change with the type of film I do”. She also added, “my enthusiasm for every film will be the same, irrespective of the budget of the film or the way the film looks.”

Finding Fanny is scheduled to be released in July 2014.
