Deepika Padukone is certainly having the debut in Bollywood that every hopeful actress would wish for, starring opposite King Khan himself in Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om.
Talking about being signed by SRK for this project, the beautiful 21 year old said that, “I’ve grown up watching Shah Rukh Khan and never really imagined that one day I will get to play the lead opposite him.”
This film that is “totally mad”, according to Farah Khan, is initially set in the 1970s and then continues on in to modern day. It is the story of SRK’s character, Om, who is a junior artist in Bollywood in the 70s. He and his love, played by Deepika Padukone, marry but sadly he dies shortly thereafter. He is reincarnated very soon after that, and the story moves on to present day.
Om is haunted by the recollections of his love and his past life and wants to discover what happened to him the night he died. He also wants to find his love and be with her again, but the twist is that not only is she much older than him, but she believes he is her long lost love Om.
The film which boasts of a song with 30 Bollywood superstars is almost finished and will release later this year.
About filming, Deepika said that, “Shah Rukh is a wonderful person. Every day, every minute of the shoot, he lived up to that persona and the ‘King Khan’ tag that he carries.”
Padukone may be new to Bollywood, but she has done other projects her most notable being her role in the Kannada film, Aishwarya. She has also modeled for Liril, Close Up and Limca.
She is prepared for life in the spotlight and the rumors about a romance with Ranbir Kapoor. The two are working opposite each other in a Yash Raj film production. About the rumors she says, “Being a known face, I guess it’s just a habit to hear reports trying to intrude in your personal life. You do tend to get prepared for such things. As long as my family and people who matter to me are by my side, nothing else matters,”
She looks to have a bright future in Bollywood and she added that, “Shah Rukh and Farah will always be there to support me and guide me in the future.”
We wish her loads of success and cannot wait to see what Om Shanti Om has in store for us!
